Why Gemini is boring

Gemini is a new technology and attracts people interested in technology. It does not allure anyone else and the way it's going right now, it never will.

Gemini is an island of purebred bleakness. Go to any public feed aggregator, like Antenna[1] or CAPCOM[2] and you'll find blog entries about why systemd sucks, who needs to try OpenBSD or Emacs, why plain text is the divine interface or how to set up a Gemini server.

I don't want to read this stuff all day! Give me some diversity! Tell my about your favorite movies, the sports you enjoy, the amazing cookie recipe your grandma shared with you, the planting experiments on your balcony, the unexpectedly awesome vacation spot you discovered, your local hiking trails or share your dating advice with us. Anything but the 1000st discussion of a new programming language!

Of course I am exaggerating and there is some variety already. For example, the blog of hundredrabbits[3] was one of the most interesting places on the internet I have visited lately, but it feels to me like a needle in the haystack of software talk. Of course I am a geek myself and take an interest in the discussion of command line tools and elegant protocols, but this is only a fraction of what I'm curious about.

I really enjoy using Gemini, but right now, I only visit the Gemini space occasionally, because I have come to view it as a bubble for techy topics. I would love to be able to use Gemini for more than that. If I could just type a dish into a search engine and find some good recipes here, I could finally escape the ad-ridden recipe websites. I dream of a Gemini where I could search for some foreign country and find some reviews of interesting places to visit there. I long for a feed aggregation where I can find inspiration for interesting new hobbies once in a while.

If we can get to this state, where tech talk is only one of many facets of the Gemini space, I think Gemini will stay much more interesting for many. It may even become interesting for some, who would have never cared for it before. Help us to keep Gemini exciting by sharing your bread recipe!
