My vision of new normal seems to be different to most.
Some people seem to think this was a “plandemic” to purposely orchestrated to introduce new draconian laws. I don’t believe that, but I do think governments worldwide have tried and in some cases succeeded in taking advantage to gain greater control of their citizens.
I think the sheer selfishness of many people, not caring enough about their fellow humans has been disgusting. Several times I’ve seen conversations that have a bit of a “discussion” about the merits of masks and vaccines and the end is basically “your health isn’t my problem”. This makes me so sad and angry. Particularly when I’ve seen Americans in this sort of conversation it seems to be implied that caring about other people’s health is somehow far too communist.
The way I see forward is by realising that Covid-19 is with us for the long haul. Hopefully the cases and hospitalisation/deaths will be “manageable” and that we’ll have a situation analogous to the seasonal flu. People will get it, and some will die. It’ll just become an acceptable tragedy.
The problem is that Covid is much more transmissible and more deadly. Hopefully the vaccines will help with this, but it’s too early to see long term data on this, yet🤞🏻.
Ideally this would all be a wake up call to the world. A deadly virus that has disrupted over 18 months of everyone’s life. It’s been bad, but it could have been worse. Let’s all get prepared for things, just in case it does happen again.
Encourage people to keep vital supplies in case of a toilet roll scarcity again.
Get people washing hands, using sanitiser, generally caring more about hygiene.
Continue the use of masks. Busy places - wear a mask. Got a cough/cold - wear a mask.
Vaccines - let’s educate people on them to remove the fear and misunderstandings.
