OOTW Hacker version 0.1b
By Nathan Mates

While Out Of This World is a really spectacular game, my arcade skills
aren't as good. I was playing around one day, and decided to see if I could
save the game part way throuh a level. I could, and from that, Out Of This
World (OOTW) Hacker was born.

OOTW Hacker is a CDA, so install it in the system/desk.accs folder of
your boot volume and reboot, or use a DA installer, such as IR. Once it is
loaded, run OOTW. At any time while you are playing the game, go to the
CDA menu by pressing control, open apple and escape all at once. Find the
entry marked "Out Of This World Hacker" and select it. The first time you
select the CDA, you will be given a menu with only one option:
1. Save Current Position

From here, you can either press escape, "Q", or control-Q to leave the
CDA, or hit "1" to save the current postioion. On non-accelerated machines,
there might be a bit of a pause after this happens as well as a slight flash
of the screen, this is because the computer is storing both the game and
data about the screen.

Once you select the first option, two more options will appear in the
menu:
2. Restore position
3. Free Used Memory

Restore Position can be selected an infinite number of times; it simply
takes you back to the position you were when you selected "Save Current
Position." When you get back to the game, the colors on the screen might be
off for a fraction of a second (due to the way OOTW changes the screen colors
around to make things appear better) but they will be soon corrected. If you
enter another room the colors will almost every time be corrected.

The saved game in memory takes up about 53K of memory; OOTW Hacker should
properly give you an error if it cannot allocate the necessary block of memory.
When you are done playing OOTW, it is best to give that memory back to the
system-- simply select OOTW Hacker, and press option 3, "Free Used Memory."
This will throw away the saved game you have, and give the memory back to
the common pool of memory. If you quit OOTW and then select OOTW Hacker, it
will say that it cannot find OOTW, and it will clear a saved game, if there is
one.

Caveats:
This program was written up in about half an hour by Nathan Mates. I have
not have the time to fully beta test it; there may be some bugs floating
around, hopefully not. The hacker works fine with my version; if you have a
slightly different version, it probably won't be able to "find" OOTW in
memory.

About the programmer:

Starting September 1992, I, Nathan Mates, will be a freshman at Caltech
university. As Caltech is a phenomenal university, it also costs a bit, so any
donations ($, Disks, other programs) to help defray the costs of my time helping
the Apple II community from within this prestigious university.
