This is a gemlog for the SpellBinding puzzle, in which you construct words using the specified letters (each word must contain the anchor letter).
Missing: NONAGON ANALOG COGNAC CONGA CONTANGO GALANT
AGOG ALGA ALGAL ALONG CATALOG CLANG CLOG COGNAC GAGA GALA GALANGAL GALL GALLANT GALLON GANG GAOL GLACON GLOAT GLOGG GLOTTAL GNAT GOAL GOAT GONG GOOG GOOGOL GOON LAGOON LAGOONAL LOGO LONG OCTAGON OCTAGONAL TAGALONG TANG TANGO TOGA TONG
The missing words are all great, and I want to talk about these.
I especially love CONTANGO, brings me back to my days of trading futures. A commodity is in CONTANGO when the futures trade higher than spot prices, which is the normal situation (the warehouseman gets paid for storing the commodity). The opposite is backwardation, where future prices are _lower_ than spot prices, and as they say in Chicago, shit is all fucked up, and shortselling ensues until equilibrium is reached. Anyway, disregarding the capitalist crap, I just love the way CONTANGO sounds.
NONAGON is a nine-sided polygon, and the word is just fantastic. It's up there with 'nonillion' (one followed by 30 zeros)! GOOGOL (not 'google') is one followed by 100 zeros.
We have GALLANT. (1: showy in dress or bearing; 2:splended, stately or spirited, brave, or nobly chivalrous; 3: courteously and elaborately attentive, especially to ladies. Also as a noun, a young man of fashion, suitor, etc). GALANT with one L is not the same - it is of, relating to, or composed in the galant style of musical composition!
TAGALONG (noun): one who persistently and often annoyingly follows the lead of another. The verb form is two separate words, 'tag along'. There are many such constructions in the dictionary.
LAGOONAL is an adjective form of LAGOON. Yes, awkward but it is a real word.
Another day.
