ALBUM REVIEW: Alamos

First published: 2006-04-13

Someone told me Alamos' eponymous debut sounds like Mcluksy gone dance. Not true...disappointing. (For Spill magazine.)

Does a thumbs-up sign from all the right industry figures really count for much any more? When a band as "so what?" as Scottish trio Alamos can get props from people like Steve Lamacq and John Peel, one does have to wonder. They’ve just been pipped to the post by We Are Scientists for the title of "Our New Favourite Runaway Express Train of ‘Gang of Four’ Noise". Sheepish nods to disco basslines, meanwhile, may well have been accompanied in the studio by a shout of "Oh shit, we’d better try something original…". Now where’s that Public Image Ltd. album?"
