2021-03-06 Gemini Fitness Program

The fitness industry is huge and ever expanding; with new and more niche

programs and products always ready to be sold to frenzied consumers. The key

to this industry is the sense of dependency that has been whipped up among

consumers. People must be made to feel inferior and helpless, lacking in the

benefits the industry has for sale. They must be made to feel reliant on the

products of the fitness industry. Pull out your wallets because a better you

is waiting for you to start that membership, or for you to buy the latest

gimmicky home fitness product.

But here in Gemini space, we like to take a step back and avoid falling into

the frenzy. We like to keep things simple, because it helps us see clearly and

avoid getting carried downstream in the hype. That is why I am proposing the

Gemini Fitness Program, as an alternative to the over-complicated mania of the

commercial fitness industry. Often times, the things you _need_ don't cost a

thing.

The Gemini Fitness Program is simple:

In the morning, get out of bed and stand up. Don't sit down again until you go

to bed at night.

That's it. Just don't sit down during the day. Eat your breakfast standing,

stand at your desk (if you're a desk worker), stand on the bus/subway, walk

instead of driving, hover instead of sitting on the pot, don't even lean

against a wall for a rest; you get the idea.

Sound easy? Try it for one day and you'll find it's not.

The Gemini Fitness Program won't get you ripped, it won't turn you into a

marathon runner, but it will (over time) improve many of the numbers that

doctors like to warn you about.

But it's more than just numbers. Sitting is one of the leading hidden health

risks facing modern societies. Take a look at the "Health Risks" section of

the Wikipedia entry on sitting (so, technically it's not hidden; just

overlooked). Links between sitting and both heart disease and diabetes are

well established. Cancer epidemiologists are also increasingly convinced that

sitting is a factor in cancer; possibly including breast cancer, endometrial

cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, and epithelial ovarian cancer. So

evidence increasingly suggests that Sitting is a Carcinogen!

Sitting (Wikipedia)

Talk to a chiropractor about the negative effects of sitting and you'll find

more benefits to the Gemini Fitness Program. Sitting is terrible for your

back. Standing all day will improve your posture and prevent back pain

(although you may be sore all over after doing the GFP at first).

Another benefit of the Gemini Fitness Program is its effect on your brain.

Sitting, and sedentary behavior generally, has been linked to depression. When

you're sitting all day, you're passive. When you're standing, you're always on

the move, always ready to do something. Instead of reacting to events, you'll

be looking for more ways to make things happen. It really does affect your

outlook on life.

And did I say that the Gemini Fitness Program won't build muscles or increase

your running mileage? By itself, that's true. But the Program is also

infinitely flexible and you're smart enough to modify it. Add periods of

running to your day; carry around some heavy stuff; add stair climbing to your

day (in fact, you should already skip elevators whenever possible). The

Program can be tailored toward any specific fitness goal you may have.

And how much does the Gemini Fitness Program cost? It is 100% free! Not only

is it free, but there is no pressure to wear special Gemini Fitness Program

attire -- there are no GFP Air (TM) shoes, no elastic pants; just wear whatever

you want to wear.

So cancel your fitness club membership. Toss out your elaborate and un-used

trendy fitness equipment (try to make sure it gets re-used or recycled, that

is). And give the Gemini Fitness Program a shot.

If you do try out the Gemini Fitness Program, please let me know how it works

out for you.
