Bubble v2.0: Fundamentals — GS.org has been updated to Bubble version 2. There is a bunch of new features and some bugfixes to improve the fundamental features of the system. Notifications Notifications are one of the key elements of the Bubble user experience, but they still had a lot of issues in version 1: redundancy and single-access links being the biggest annoyances. Both problems should now be largely resolved. History Your notifications now remain valid for up to one week, during...

Blocking Users and their Notifications — The Geminispace is quite chill compared to other communities. I hate to bring this up, but Bubble probably needs some sort of blocking feature to at least block notifications from people. A simple blocklist would do. An even stronger measure would be the ability to block the display of certain user's posts and comments. Given the experience with other social networks, it seems wise to act proactively and implement at least the first option.

Editing — The moveable segments mechanism for drafting a post is pretty neat. But sometimes you want to edit an existing section, and copy-and-pasting is a bit annoying. I'm not sure it's a good idea, but something I'd like is an option (maybe only after you enable it in your settings) to run a sed command over an existing segment (or all segments). Even nicer might be to have it be fully line-based, each segment a single line, so then you don't need a separate sed link for each segment and...

Hey there! Enjoying Bubble so far, if I can add another concern to the centralization debate, there's language representation. Are there any plans for internationalization (i18n) of UI strings? Either on a per user basis here on geminispace.org or for an entirely separate Bubble instance.

@skyjake can bubbles be used privately? I mean for private circles?

Not really an issue, just a request for tips. I wanted to post a photo, but the only format that went small enough was HEIC which doesn't seem to be supported here? I must be doing something wrong. Are there tips for making low-res photos that fit in the small-web?

Not really sure if that is my connection or the server, but I am getting a timeout message occasionally when browsing the site or posting something

Q: Can there be more than one moderator per subspace? Can moderators be changed?

Q: Does Bubble really delete deleted data or does it just mark deleted data as deleted in the database?

Site updated to Bubble v1.4: Web (HTTP) links no longer appear in post previews as clickable links. They do appear normally on the post page, though. (It would be a little too easy for someone to start spamming web links in All Posts.) Fixed subspaces being listed multiple times in the index. Fixed feed page count. Fixed failure to export a user archive when a comment was referencing a deleted post.

Would Bubble benefit from a private message function? I am kind of torn about that, the more pages get pm function, the more confusing it gets

Rapid iteration continues, now at Bubble v1.3: Added Bear Face avatar. Fixed selecting Desktop Computer as avatar (and other two-codepoint symbols). Fixed error when trying to view a poll when not logged in. Now just shows results. Improvements and fixes for notifications: remove some redundancy, e.g., @-mentions override regular commenting. Notifications about issues are described better. Email notifications were missing some information that was visible in the Dashboard. Issue number is...

food for thought on bubble federation and wider use: I watched people discuss all the time in Lemmy how that despite it being federated, most folks gravitated towards the original lemmy.ml site because the people and content were there. it's lonely in tiny federated silos, so I understand, so my hope is that other implementers of Bubble use its other features and are able to draw enough community to their own projects in order to distribute properly.

After starting to use the Bubble site I have to say that using certificates for user accounts works really great, I have created a cert for Astrobotany initially and use that for other sites now as well and have that on 2 different computers and that saves me using a password manager for it

Updated to Bubble v1.2 with some quick fixes: Fixed moderator rights: moderators can delete posts and individual comments, and edit post titles. (Only post authors and admins can edit post contents.) Fixed preview generation when post has multiple segments (wasn't truncated to correct max length). Added Lizard avatar. If your favorite emoji is missing from the avatars, comment here: /s/Bubble-Issues/issues/9

The site is now running Bubble v1.1: Goat and Penguin avatars added added missing description of "post in followed subspace" Git repo history wasn't being refreshed; now commits should start appearing in issues fixed moderator not being able to delete posts less notification spam: prevent users self-notifying themselves; visiting Dashboard stops emails from being sent for the seen notifications UX: in the ↓ comment order, there's now a Comment action at the end of the thread

How does Bubble decide when to send an email? Is it when a notification goes unread for a certain amount of time? How long?

The Compose draft feature doesn't work the way I was expecting. I was expecting each text section to be on a newline, like a separate paragraph. Also expected the title to be a heading. I assumed the idea was that you were composing something like a blog post. Did I just get this wrong?

It would be cool if you could follow tinylogs that are not hosted on geminispace.

I like this. it makes me feel like Gemini is still evolving. I understand the argument about simplicity, but simplifying entry and maintenance are also important. I think there's room for this and Station.

The Bubble v1.0 source code is now available: gemini://git.skyjake.fi/bubble/main/ Licensed under BSD-2-Clause. Mind you, this was speedily written in two weeks so some cleanup and possible reorganization is still pending.
