Vox tries to make sense of trends online (and maybe theyā€™re right šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø).

Itā€™s weird to me that out of 8 billion people on Earth, a whole ocean of takes and feels, there are these homogenizing trends and waves and pendulum swings. Luckily we can carve out a niche to breathe in, probably better known as friends and fam ā™„

My 2DS since last update (not the one in this article) keeps ā€œturning offā€ for a minute and then resuming. Sucks because I was using mine every day as a podcast player with the built in sound app to listen to Critical Role on walks.

This latest update, which I havenā€™t gotten yet but Iā€™m warning all yā€™all of, just seems spiteful on Nintendoā€™s part.

Overall Iā€™ve already regretted trying to mod it, even though I support the idea of modding your consoles. Itā€™s such a mindflip of compartmentalization being into FOSS for work while also trying to enjoy some Nintendo games.

Saw some people writing about me and complaining about the hearts I used to sprinkle my texts with, still do it sometimes but I used to do it a lot more often before all joy drain from the world last August and I fell into the gray void where Iā€™m still haplessly crawling around to this day.

Supergood post on #blorb by Bastionland guy! I didnā€™t see this until now, more than a year later. Really great to see blorb explained by someone who gets it and who writes better & clearer than me šŸ«”

I missed the memo on this. Pretty nifty ā™„

Hot trios are a curious trope. Iā€™m talking about the gaston fanclub girls in Beauty and the Beast, the three women after Shrek wakes up empotioned in Shrek 2, and of course the brides of Dracula.

Even though I know that the triplicate trope only exists to dehumanize & commoditize these women, Iā€™ve always wanted to know more about them and maybe see a movie or show where they are the main characters. I was like ā€œforget Belle! Who are these interesting women?!ā€

I just saw a breadtube where they had put a horror movie soundtrack style scary cue at the opening CW. (And it wasnā€™t a joke CW either, it was real bad stuff.)

Guys, that is not appropriate or helpful. The CW isnā€™t meant to be your titillating liā€™l shock gruesome thing. If you are to even use CWs ā€” CWs have advantages but due to their brevities canā€™t build up or cushion or contextualize topics properly ā€” then at least try to use them as a serious tool. You donā€™t have to go ā€œhow can I make this traumatic topic even more triggering and impactful, for thrills!ā€ Sober the heck up.

Email can do a couple of things misfin canā€™t:

Mail is also our beloved and well-tended protocol with an installed base of literally billions. Four billion people. Most of ā€˜em donā€™t have e2ee but most do have s2se.

Misfin also is built to support proof of work crypto (with response code 64). Proof of work crypto is not good. Weā€™ve been over this.

I know itā€™s been done havinā€™ one protocol thatā€™ll last me.

If we would wanna xkcd://927 and switch to a new protocol, thereā€™s XMPP. And a lot of others. Most of them pretty bad. Among them a polished gem: email.

Hannah Bradley nĆ©e Heath lived among the Abenaki two years (1697ā€“1699) and with another group (maybe Algonquinā€¦?) in 1704. She is the primary source for acoount of the woman who survived the mass murderer Hannah Duston (canā€™t believe an elementary school was named after her)ā€”that account is on pp 59ā€“60.

She was newly married at the time of the Haverhill 1697, when she was 19. (Yes, geneology sites claim she was born in 1673 but this book says 1677.)

pp 27, 48 (I love the ā€œdonā€™t record thisā€ note preserved for 326 years), 55ā€“57, 59, 70ā€“85.

For all its faults, one neat thing about Watchmen that stuck with me is how the ads change in the end, from Nostalgia to some future optimistic campaign.

I think thereā€™s a lot of truth to that.

And now that we have brownshirts in the Swedish riksdag itā€™s making me look suspiciously at all the patriotic products and advertising and songs in mainstream culture. Iā€™m normally super into traditional Swedish folk songs but now is not the time!

Everything from detergent to food to mello songs are reminiscent of the fucking blue eyed Jugend. šŸ”„šŸ¾ā›½ļø

This is also why I have some amount of understanding (ā‰  agreement) for how the enemy is paranoidly thinking that everything we do is ā€œpanderingā€. Yā€™all know that in their world if thereā€™s a chick in the screen for three seconds, Pandering Panic sets in and theyā€™re calling their Hush Hush Stay Numb anti-woke squad pals for a comfort sesh. But here I am, just as paranoid, staring just as suspiciously at my laundry detergent as they are.

The alt-right (probably better known as nazi fucks) are such a tiny part of society but so are we. If we look up from our Adorno and Foucault and Berman and Butler for a hot minute weā€™ll see that the winds of change can switch rapidly and subtly and that most people are whimsical creatures of fads.

Pine needles and fresh air and wild strawberries belong to all of us. But when the brownshirted pundits are claiming it all for themselves itā€™s jarring to see ad campaigns and mass media quickly pivot and bend to accomodate.

The enemy coined the phrase ā€œvirtue signallingā€ but they do it too; we call it ā€œdog whistlingā€. Both sides are getting super paranoid and eager to scan for clues and shibboleths that someone is cool. That goes double here on Fedi. Weā€™re all like ā€œoh no a new instance, what are their rules, what are their values, who do they hang out withā€. I do it too.

Ainā€™t a lot I can say about it other than keep those peepers peeled and that cranium cool and donā€™t get fooled.

Les fachos have a core cult of a few dozen shrewd rattletails and liesmiths, and the masses are just getting duped. Some are gullible, others opportunistic.

The various USB C to 3.5mm headphone dongles I have all sound completely awful. Is making a good, clean DAC a lost art? The old USB A one I have on my desktop (first-run Griffin iMic) is heaven sent. Itā€™s like the clouds part and rays of pure sound shine through. And then I go on the iPad and my ears die.

It sounds like a sample rate issue šŸ¤”
