Hello Gemini!

Finally, an appropriate first post for my gemlog.

Not really the first

Most of my attention has been on setting up Oriean Space. Where I host this very capsule! So the Orion Transmissions were the place I actually started posting. Nevertheless, I thought appropriate to make an introductory post for my gemlog.

This is that post.

How I got here, roughly

I was tangentially aware of smolnet, but never really engaged with it. All I knew about Gopher was "it's old-school interwebs", but quite recently I started working with terminals more frequently and randomly stumbled across LaGrange while checking out Scoop's list of apps. I downloaded it. I love that ZZ-Top song! And the fact that it's description had 'Gemini Client' on it got my attention. I fired it up and started reading up on Gemini on it's starting page. Very interesting, I thought.

LaGrange -- A Beautiful Gemini Client

Scoop -- Windows Terminal App Installer (I love it)

So, what actually brought me to hosting my own place here was the game I'm developing and the will to make a site and devlog for it. After being enlightened by the knowledge of Gemini, it was a no-brainer. Why have a website when I can have a capsule? If need be, I can proxy it to HTTP after all. Eventually I settled with the Amfora client and set off into Gemspace.

My journey began.

The Quest

As mentioned, this capsule is hosted by myself. But to be clear, the capsule is hosted at a Station of Oriean Space, the OSS-Betelgeuse. And I refer to capsules hosted there as being "docked" at the station. After getting into Gemini I very quickly scrambled to set up a capsule, I saw some places that could offer me a capsule, but at the time the ones I was most interested in were full/deactivated. I'm a bit picky and given how simple it actually is, hosting my own was not a hard decision to make.

I'll not get into the hows and whys of Oriean Space here, the project is being ostesibly documented on it's own page. I'll leave this gemlog for more personal matters. Feel free to check out Oriean Space, though!
