Set up a NAS with openmediavault. Other than storing my roms and saves in the cloud, any other ideas of what i can do?

I have some experience with OMV. I've got a box set up with Snapraid and MergeFS, with eight drives total and three as parity drives. I use it as an on-site backup server for my laptop via Restic, and I run Docker containers via Portainer for Navidrome, Jellyfin, qBittorrent Web, and Nginx. I've also hosted VMs on it in the past. I have it behind Wireguard so I can safely access it from my devices wherever I am.

FWIW, I was hesitant to use OMV because "easy to use, purpose-specific" software tends to eventually get in my way. OMV was no exception, but it proved easy to strip all the OMV-specific stuff off the underlying Debian OS when the time came. · 1 year ago
