Making MIDI

I made a few changes to my Lilypond setup yesterday. I was unsure of the ramifications of the IPA font license, so I decided not to include them in the repository and write [a Nix flake] instead. This means I don't have to install Lilypond on the machine I want to run it on, I just need Nix (with flake support) installed, hooray!

I also found a great tool called `timidity` which allows me to play MIDI from the terminal. You can even specify what measures to play which is great for me since it allows me to easily play back just the section I'm currently working on.

$ timidity --segment=4m-8m some-file.midi

I'm still struggling a lot with transcribing the rhythm though, especially the pauses. To me the song really feels like it's 6/8, but in the cover to the 7 inch single there's a short extract of the verse melody and there the melody is transcribed in 4/4 with a bunch of triplets and 16th notes... I'm starting to feel like I've bitten off more than I can chew.
