While listening to S’s talk on Cage and Satie and ambient music the other night at GCADD I recognized one of the quotes as being from Cage’s compilation of writing Silence. I always think of it as one of my favorite books, and it’s survived several moves and winnowing of my collection, which generally is becoming smaller over time. But this morning I’m rereading it for the first time in several years. There’s always something new to be found. I didn’t know anything about Rauschenberg during my last reading; this time I skipped straight to the pages about him and absorbed it all.

Reading just a few pages of Cage on Rauschenberg gave me several new ideas for paintings. Cage is just like that
