Introducing... Galaxy Chat

For the past few days I've been working on an experimental chat program built entirely in Gemini.

I'll keep this introductory post brief, because the SourceHut project home page has plenty of info, and will be updated more than this gemlog post.

Right now I have a working MVP server implementation which can be interacted with using off-the-shelf gemini clients; you can send messages to rooms, and all users currently in that room will see your message with your username immediately.

I plan on writing a custom gemini client that ties together the otherwise spec-compliant server endpoints into a clean looking chat app.

I got the idea from the #gemini irc channel talking about "gemini apps" last week. I think that conversation also led to this post, which made the rounds in the last couple days:
