Matthias Portzel's Gemini Capsule

Welcome

I'm Matthias. I'm a student, a writer, and a web developer.

Welcome to my Gemini Capsule.

I'm glad you're here. I'm glad you're taking a break from the complexity of the web and enjoying Geminispace.

I've agonized over whether the ideal Gemini capsule should perfectly mirror an HTML version of a page, or if Gemini should only be used for projects that don't have an HTML equivelent. In my experence, trying to mirror content between HTML and Gemini requires one of the two to be a clumsy second-class citizen. Additionaly, trying to design a site that works in over both Gemini and HTTP is more complicated and less fun than designing for either alone. Right now, the primary version of my site is the HTML version (linked below), and this is the only page in Geminispace. I may in the future find a way to elegantly transform more of my writing into Gemtext, and include it here.

About Me

I specialize in JavaScript (and other web technologies), but I’ve written programs in Python, Bash, C, Zig, SQL, and Java for various projects. In addition to programming, I enjoy reading fantasy, playing Minecraft, and occasionally rock climbing.

I knew I enjoyed software as early as 3th grade, and it has been a consistent hobby for me. I focus on web-development, both front and backend, but I’ve created projects big and small, for myself and for others. Check them out in under the “Projects” tab.

I’m very curious, and will learn about everything with enthusiasm! I enjoy thinking over a problem, so that I can be sure to create a solution that I’m proud of.

Astronomical Theater

This capsule runs on Astronomial Theater; a Gemini Server of my own creation. I use it because I believe using code that you wrote is a good thing. In almost all cases, I would recommend writing your own Gemini server, or using another server, rather than using this one.
