About: A2.2000.10.97.SHK

I wish it were possible to present everything that is contained within the
A2-2000 October final online version and release - from my web site. But, that
simply is not possible. I've provided all I think can be presented from the
online final issue of A2-2000 October issue - with the limitations of size
available on an 800k data disk, in this ShrinkIt archive.

Hardware failures and other unexpected personal commitments have prevented me
from making this A2-2000 - October issue available before now as an archive.
I'm sorry for the delay in making it available. I hope you'll find the content
of interest and value.

As a result of the hardware failures on my IIgs, I've been forced to use a Mac
for all A2-2000 publishing efforts from September to date. One of the most
agrivating aspects of trying to make a disk that all Apple II models can use
(without the stupid resource forks that the Mac insist on attaching to every file
it encounters). I've tried every trick in the book to process the final disk and
all files on it to remove these needless resource forks from the files. On the
MAc I've tried Flipper to change the file types and then ProType v1.1 to process
the files accordingly to remove these needless resource forks and change the file
types to the proper text file types for all Apple II models to access and read.
Nothing worked and I wasted hours and hours with such attempts in vain.

Then I discovered a program that has proved to be a real blessing for me. It's
solved the problems of removing the useless resource forks from all files on this
archive - very fast and very efficiently. It's name is CONVERTFORKS. I've
included this program, with the documentation file for it, inside the
CONVERTFORKS folder. It's a ProDOS (P8) system program, that seperates all files
with a resource fork into two files; data and rsrc. So, when you encounter such
within a folder, read the data file only. Some may appear a bit unordered in
form, but the info contained of value is there to read with any standard text
file editor and/or word processor.

Currently on my IIgs, I had a complete hard drive failure/crash with my Focus
IDE HD card and not having another hard drive to use at the present, I had to
resort to using my RAM for temporary needs, installing the GS/OS and all files,
program needs, etc. used for my daily efforts in unpacking, processing, conversions,
etc. I can assure you a 4MB RAM is not as easy to deal with and use as is a
hard drive.

I made the mistake of using this CONVERTFORKS program to process my RAM disk,
that I'm now fourced to use on my IIgs, mistsaking the volume for the 800k disk
of this archived A2-2000 Oct. issue. I tried to reboot from my RAM disk and
SURPRIZE, having all the files with a reource fork seperated to only data and
rsrc - it booted to the point it required the files with both data and resource
forks together in a single file - then CRASHED! After I realized what I'd done,
I thought man what a dummy I am, to have made such an error. Next, I though -
now I'll have to start all over and reinstall everthing again to be able to boot
and use things from the RAM disk. Then I remembered the CONVERTFORKS program
documentation said the program could restore things by reforking them. I tried
it on the RAM disk and everything was back to it's formal state. Well, I was
very happy and I really like love this CONVERTFORKS program.

Until I can find the time and abilities to get another hard drive installed on my
IIgs, this CONVERTFORKS program will have to be my temporary salvation for a fast
fix method to use to prepare the A2-2000 800k disk archived versions - for all
Apple II models to access use and read the text files.

The users of this archive should note that html documents, GIF graphic files and
some text files in the archive are seperated as such; data and rsrc files. It
addes more folders, that's true, but, it saves me many hours of added work trying
to arrange and style the archive to remove the needless resource forks. Until I
can find another alternative, this is the way I'm presenting the archives.

If you want a monthly freeware archive release of A2-2000, until I can find another
more expedient method to use for such - this is the alternative I'm presenting to
the users of the archives. I hope you will understand this and can deal with it
accordingly.

Below you will find a list of the entire contents of the A2-2000 October online
issues main directory. The 800k data disk - ShrinkIt archive prepared from the
online issue contains only text, one ShrinkIt archive and a few text file formats
of GIF 256 color graphics. The online full issue consist of well over 5 MB of
files graphics and so on, that can't be provided in this archive. You must
realize there is no way all of this material can be condensed to fit on an 800k
ProDOS data disk and it's archive of such.

The url for accessing the October online final release to review the full contents
offered - follows:

If you do not yet have an option to allow you Internet access to browse the WWW
full online final release of A2-2000, you should obtain such. Anybody with any
Apple II model of computer has such options and the ability available to allow
you to have full Internet access. If you want to be able to review and access all
each issue of A2-2000 has to offer it's time you joined the WWW with your choice
of an online service or ISP (Internet Service Provider). If you don't take
advantage of the abilities and offerings from the entire Internet and WWW, you
really are missing out on a wealth of additional information, files, archives,
etc. that simply can not be included within the monthly freeware A2-2000
archives.

If you don't know the process to obtain such Internet access with your computer,
be it any Apple II model or some other platform, I'll be happy to give you advise
on the methods you can use to obtain Internet access for such. Just send me an
email and I'll give you all the information you need to establish full Internet
access.

I urge you to visit and review the October online issue final release of A2-2000,
to enjoy all the many other files that can't be presented from this archive of
the A2-2000 within the 800K data disk size limitations in this release. The main
directory of the October WWW final release of A2-2000 online (from my web site)
