It was quite an ambitious project since the gare require some very efficient routines in order to display a 3D game screen on a computer that ran at only 2.8 MHz. However, the true challenge was to develop a very fast sound engine that allowed to play complex music without using too much processing power. These routines later became the foundation of my SoundSmith program, released a couple of moths later as shareware. Surprisingly, most programs at that time used digitized music instead of computer generated music. This used a lot of disk space and did not take advantage of the incredible Ensoniq sound chip included in every Apple IIgs. LaserForce consist of 76 Levels. LaserForce is a game based on Br�derbund's smash hit Lode Runner, and one of the few developped only for the IIgs platform. The player's goal is to collect all the energy boxes scattered around the gaming board, avoiding the robots that protect them, before running out of energy. The players can use their laser to destroy the robots (or to kill each other in two players mode). In order to collect the energy boxes, the players can use ropes, ladders and even tele-transporters. Players will find out than in higher levels, robots get smarter and energy boxes get harder to find. LaserForce includes a graphical level editor that allows to easily create new and challenging levels that can be shared with other players.
