< finding my way back to the calloused land
I've never been much of a drinker, though I do enjoy a nice pils. In highschool and uni, I'd be the one puking my guts out or just plain not being able to do the drinking games, which always placed me into the category of "satellite friend" in the group, just orbiting the main group who could always party harder.
As I got older and met this group less and less frequently, I came to the conclusion that I'm not a "lad", and don't indulge in "laddish" behaviour, or do the "lads on tour" thing when abroad. This is a good thing, since I tend to find that these groups soak in nothing of the culture and nature around them, and are happy to defecate/urinate anywhere they want and write off such behaviour as "Friday night shenanigans"/"Boys will be boys".
I still meet with this group, who have definitely calmed down since their teenage years, but I no longer pretend to try to care to keep up with their drinking habits. I'll have my two pints, get a nice little buzz, and then call it a night.

I dare say it's taking me the better part of four decades to rise to that enlightened position of imbibe.
I did have literally seven years off after a particularly bad hangover. But then my brother turning a milestone age brought me back in his "honor", i.e. consumption ability/reputation.
But lately I've been mostly able to stick to a couple glasses of wine or less.
Beer's a different animal for me, though, as carbonated alcoholic beverages somehow hit me at least twice as hard as their less bubblicious counterparts. Plus, I vastly prefer beer to wine, which of course also "heavies the foot" on the glasses per hour pedal.
