A bit of a weird rant about Gemini made the HN front page. Not sure why some people get so triggered by what is really just a simple way to write and serve text over IP. We already have *loads* of stuff that's more complex than that, but pretty much nothing that's simpler. Maybe they're ideologically driven to complexity. Complexophiles.

@maria yes, it is indeed really weird. It reminds me of the Sokal affair.

@nristen sadly it seems like this is just how we humans are wired. This is the trait that Twitter and Facebook exploit to the max.
On a brighter note though, the design of Gemini seems to prevent this kind of purposeful exploitation of the darker part of our nature by removing the business incentive to do so. · 2 years ago
I think it got flagged because it's completely random. it throws words around but doesn't say much · 2 years ago
@negepezzannyitfiam It seemed to have been flagged for some reason. It was a bit of a random rant, but not so bad it needed flagged.

@negepezzannyitfiam good point about the negative publicity. Sadly, it seems that negative publicity is more viral than positive publicity. On the other hand, I believe that much of the time negative publicity comes from people who just want to get attention. I remember being taught, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything" I know that this is pretty out of date but I wish more people lived by that. · 2 years ago
First off, negative publicity is still publicity. This will make even more people look into Gemini.
Can you send a link to that rant? I can't find it on the front page (or on pages 2-5). · 2 years ago
