met with the owner of the property i fancy so much. met on the property for negotiations and that went into the night. we’re closer to a deal now, but i had to stretch to go there. it is too early to be excited, but i feel like we are close to finding common ground. the sunset was unreal. so beautiful. and it is only one and a half hours away from where i live. maybe i do get my nature getaway after all? so exciting. there is wildlife though and i guess i should learn how to build a cabin.

@digbat would love a capsule about building sheds and cabins etc. thinking of starting one myself. the floor insulation sharing helped me start my research. building a home in a foreign language sometimes has challenges like not knowing what stuff is called and then absurd results are returned by search engines when you translate from your mother language literally. gracias! gracias! · 7 months ago

@smokey my wife looked into yurts but we quickly found out that the county will have objections. there is surprisingly little room for alternative ways of living, at least when you insist in plumbing which is imho one of the greatest steps forward for mankind. a seasonal yurt to extend capacity to house guests is still something we think about. · 7 months ago

my site shed/outbuilding/cabin is a cog in a (as usual) planning process and with time pressures I was unable to be as environmentally correct as I really wanted: if I'd had more time and flexibility then I would have done it differently. Floor: yes for VB - I used an under laminate leveler, insulating, and vapour barrier layer with laminate on top. I will try to do a capsule post on this with pics but today I expect plumber, electrician, builders, window install - so Mi laboras multe! · 7 months ago

Is cobb something you might be into? Also a wall-tent is a nice starter semi-permanent thing to live in while your cabin is being built. · 7 months ago

@digbat i have a million questions for you :) does one need vapor barrier for floor as well? roof? how to figure out the size of solar? a fridge seems an energy hungry device but somewhat necessary. what did you use as foundation. so much to learn. but where from? is there a wikipedia for cabin builders? · 7 months ago

living in cabin due home renovation in progress - i helped build - basically timber stud walls with 400mm stud centers, osb, modern vapour barrier - timber cladding to come, insulation to go in - solar planned install next week or so. · 7 months ago
