DiskDup+ 2.9.2
Shareware by Roger D. Bates
April 7, 1999

THE Disk Duplication program for your Macintosh!

Thank you for your interest in the DiskDup+ program. This program has been written to
automate as much as possible the sector by sector duplication of a floppy onto one or more
duplicates. All controls of the program are displayed by the one control dialog which is
always presented by the program. These controls may be changed at any time.

Here is a list of the principal features of DiskDup+:

o- DiskDup+ v2.9.2 supports SuperDisk from Imation and other USB drives.

o- DiskDup+ v2.9.1 is more consistant with Mac OS 8 user interface.

o- DiskDup+ v2.9.0 is now fully HFS+ compatible. It allows you to both mount image
files on HFS+ volumes but also lets you create and initialize new image files as HFS+
volumes of their own. In this case, the allocation block size within the image file is
always 512 bytes, the smallest size available. This allows you to create an HFS+ file
volume while storing it on a hard drive that is still formatted as HFS standard.

o- NEW in 2.8 - Not disk duplication, but you can create a disk image file of any size
and have this image mounted on the desktop as a separate volume (soft partition)
for storage of files separate from your main hard disk volume. This is useful for Web
browsers that seem susceptible to data loss. Any such data loss is then limited to
the files stored by the web browser, not your entire hard disk.

o- Performs sector duplication of either 400K, 720K, 800K, or 1440K floppies.

o- Unused sectors may be skipped for faster duplication.

o- Automatically creates disk Labels for each of the disks duplicated.
Labels may be edited for text, font, size, face, and number of copies, etc.

o- You can copy 800K Masters onto 1440K copies (with increased free space)

o- Disk images may be Read/Written from a hard drive.

o- Disk images may be mounted from the Finder for direct access to the file contents.

o- Fully compatible with Apple's Disk Copy program - read/write/mount its image files.

o- Formats copies as single or double sided as necessary to match the master disk.

o- Optionally performs a complete read back of the copy to verify all data against
the original in order to assure full data integrity.

o- Requires only a single floppy disk drive (either internal or external). If you
have two drives, you may alternate between them for maximum efficiency.

o- A Copy counter displays the number of duplications completed.

o- The entire disk data is held within the Mac if it has sufficient memory. With less
memory, two passes may be required to complete the operation.

o- An optional warning tells you if you are about to write onto a formatted disk.

o- Master disk is never mounted, so viruses can never propagate ONTO the master (and
its copies) during the duplication process.

o- Duplicates Macintosh MFS, Macintosh HFS, Apple A/UX, and any other readable diskette.

o- Tolerates bad sectors if they do not involve actual disk data.

o- Option to copy a Master with bad sectors - use in able to perform file recovery on a copy.

o- Option to maintain a log of Master disks read in and copies made.

The program has been written to work best with 1 megabyte (or more) of internal memory for
400K and 800K floppies, or 2 megabyte for 1440 floppies. It will still function when less
memory is available. In this case, it will require 2 passes over each disk. In two pass
mode, the first half of the master is read into memory, and you may then write the first half
of as many copies as desired. You then re-insert the master in order to read in the second
half for writing on all your copies. In this mode, the copy counter of DiskDup+ will properly
inform you of where you are in the process. If DiskDup+ indicates that it does not have
sufficient memory, check to see whether you are using either the Ram CACHE (see control
panel), or an internal RAMdisk. Both of these features tie up large amounts of internal Mac
memory.

This is a Shareware program. As such you are free to use/copy, and pass on copies to your
friends and neighbors. If you find yourself using the program for more than simple evaluation
of its capabilities, you are requested to register as a user of the program. You may either
send a $25 check or money order to this author, or call in and charge it on VISA or
MasterCard. You will receive a disk with the latest version of the program, a manual on the
use of DiskDup+, access to the "mount image" feature, Label printing, and instructions for
avoiding the Shareware dialog that is displayed during program execution.

Hint: Register by phone with VISA or MasterCard and get instructions for registering your
copy immediately.
