This is a gemlog for the SpellBinding puzzle, in which you construct words using the specified letters (each word must contain the anchor letter).
Thanks to skyjake's /msg I isolated and fixed a bug today. The bug showed up only in puzzles with more than 32 answers, which I tried today for the first time. I hotswapped a new shorter puzzle for today, and replaced the cgi, so we are ready for a bigger puzzle tomorrow.
AGUE ARGUE ARGUER AUGER AUGUR AURA GAUGE GRUE GRUNGE GUNNER GURU HARANGUE HARANGUER HUGE HUNG HUNGER HURRAH RERUN RUNE RUNG RUNNER UREA URGE
There were two (!!!) pangrams yesterday - HARANGUE and HARANGUER. That's right - there can be more than one pangram (word that uses all 7 letters). In this case they are related, but sometimes they are disctinctly different words. That's 29 points right there.
I am frustrated with my dictionary - despite endless hours of fine-tuning it, I missed a bunch of words today: ENURE, GUAR, HUGER, HUGGER, a panoply of UN- words, REHUNG, REARGUE, and likely a few more.
As for the words. AGUE is a fever that causes bouts of GRUE, or shivering. AUGER is a scary-looking drill bit, while AUGUR is a fortune teller of ancient Rome. Perhaps looking at RUNEs in an ancient tome? Not really - the Roman empire was done by the time Germanic tribes were scribing their RUNEs (3rd-13th century AD).
Another day.
