Retro Phone Journey, Part 4: The Past Arrives

I went to the local T-Mobile store. They had an Alcatel Go Flip 4 in a display case, but none in stock. I couldn't try it out, but whatever. I ordered one. (Fastest mobile store experience ever.) It showed up in the mail a couple of days later.

Inital setup was easy. I took the SIM card out of my broken phone and put in the flip phone. I plugged it in to charge for a little while. Once turned on, I set up wifi, then some online accounts. I verified that calling and texting worked. Easy-peasy.

Some reviews complain about the camera or the tiny screen, but I'm not sure what they were expecting. They're the same as what flip phones have had for years, and I don't know how much better could be crammed into the form factor.

Quite simply, this phone is not very different from what was available 10 years ago. However, it has wifi and bluetooth, and it can hold a microSD card. Not too shabby. Also, with an operating system based on Firefox, browsing the web is better on it than on an old flip phone. This phone is as advertised, for the most part...
