I've tried everything. Here us what I do now.
My Workstation, a 52Kb out-of-focus jpg
Apologies for the out-of-focus shot, but it's for reference only.
Here is some advice on setting up an ergonomic workstation for very little money.
Find the most comfortable seat in the house, one with lots of space next to you if possible. A couch with good back support or a comfy overstuffed chair will do. Make sure you are super comfortable with your back straight.
Ideally there is room next to you for the mouse.
You will keep your keyboard in your lap. Ergonomically that makes a lot more sense than anywhere above your crotch.
Now figure out a way to mount a monitor in front of your face. A swiveling arm attached to something very sturdy works well, and gets out of the way nicely. At another location I use a hospital-type 6-inch-wide bedside table which adjusts vertcially and leaves your legs free.
Now, try not to die.
Get up often. I have a treadmill next to me and whenever idling I walk and/or run, about 10 miles on an average work day.
This setup has worked for me for a few years now. My wrists don't hurt, my eyes are stable, and my back does not hurt at all.
Desks and tables are just stupid -- uncomfortable, and wind up with piles of crap. Standing desks are even stupider, and adjustable ones are stupid and expensive.
Be comfy, do good work.
