A way a lone a last a loved a long the

Yes, I'm going to be *that person* who quotes "Finnegans Wake", but I could think of no better title for an inaugural post written on the last night of the year.

I could give a million reasons for wanting to join Geminispace but I'm sure if you're reading this then you're already aware of all of them. I've been following circumlunar.space and other Pubnix communities since early this year, always saying to myself that I'd join at some point and hatching plans to get my own server and so on, falling into the old trap of looking so long that I never took the leap. But with the launch of the SSR and the end of the year it felt like time. My hope is that being part of the circumlunar community will encourage me to actually getting around to writing all the stuff I always think about writing. My interests are pretty varied, but for now I expect I'll mostly be riffing on literature, linguistics, and internet culture.

But there's plenty of time for that later. Right now it's December 31st and the fireworks are still going off outside, so I'll just share a small New Year's Eve tradition of mine, listening to this song by one of my favorite bands:

The Walkmen - In the New Year

It's been a rough year for me for reasons that have little to do with COVID, but my pain pales in comparison to what so many other people are going through. Here's hoping that the start of a new year, and for me personally the launch of this Gemini capsule, herald good things to come.
