Rob's Gemini Capsule launched one year ago today.
In some ways, it's hard to believe that I've been active on Gemini for that long. I've posted a lot of content and I've read far more, but it still feels like I haven't actually done very much. I still feel humbled and honored when I see a response to anything I've written. Perhaps that's due to the intentional nature of small Web communities like Gopher and Gemini, in which shallow comments and like counters are eschewed for thoughtful, profound discussions.
On the other hand, I feel my life has changed a lot since I first entered Geminispace. The community and the ethos of small tech has shaped many of my online interactions in the last year, as well as how I view myself and the world. I've tried to disconnect from the whiplash of social media and take more time to appreciate small things in the world around me. It's not always easy, and it doesn't always bring me the contentment I'm looking for, but I think it's helped more than hurt.
Things will likely still be slow on my capsule for a while. But in the meantime, it's exciting for my capsule to reach the one-year mark. I love Gemini, and real-life matters aside, I have no intention of leaving anytime soon.
Here's to another year for the little craft in the chaotic spacelanes of the Internet.
