First show since the lockdown tonight

Its a wonderful Saturday morning. The sun is shining bright, I have leftover dip and chips from the movie night before, and coffee brewing fresh on the stove. Today I decided to break out the handheld milk frother that's been sitting around unused for almost a year now, giving today's cup a nicer flavor than my usual black pick-me-up.

The show

Today is the day of the first live show I'm able to go to since the start of this whole covid thing. Featuring two bands that I've been listening to the whole lockdown, Summerbruise and Equipment.

House shows have been my main source of social interaction in this town from the time I moved in to the time lockdown began, and it will be nice to get back into them in this interim we have before the delta variant gets more serious. I'll get to connect more with the friends that sort of drifted away during the lockdown and get to know any newcomers to the scene that are coming early for the new school year.

The scene

Shows aren't the only part of the local scene that I've been waiting on. From the weekly midweek meetup of the Midweek Movie Association, to the in person screenings of our monthly Instant Gratification Film Festival, to the various miscelaneous get togethers that would be listed on our volunteer run punk calendar a lot has been put on pause by the global pandemic. Fingers crossed that the Delta variant doesn't flare up, but every day it seems more and more likely that we'll be dealing with this far longer than the worst of the worst estimates we had at the start of the lockdown.

Doing it safe

I don't want to come off as dismissive of the effects of the pandemic, but from all the data I've seen it appears that the spread of the Delta variant has been almost entirely caused by lack of vaccination rather than loosening restrictions on those who have been vaccinated. With the events that I plan to attent being limited to those who have their cards ready at the door, I'm fairly certain that the meetups I'll be attending should have next to no effect on local spread.

Thats all for today, have a great one everybody!
