I might be impressed with how poorly Github performs if I were not so annoyed.
I am not referring to page-load times but rather interaction within the page. Simply scrolling within a 300-line file causes my browser to lag, the fans start to spin and the page stutters. The developer tools report scrolling causes the frame rate to drop to 7 frames a second. On a CPU that can do more than 2 BILLION things per-second Github can render 7 frames.
I was going to facetiously make a list of services that performed better in this regard but I cannot actually find another service that performs anywhere near so poorly on such a simple test. Using literally anything else produces a better result: Launchpad, Heptapod, Sourcehut, Trac, cgit, hg serve, Bitbucket(!)
What an absolute joke. Github sucks.
I am looking forward to the inevitable downward spiral and increasingly frustrating performance before finally a competitor will launch with /DOUBLE THE SPEED OF GITHUB/, at which point everyone is so used to their webpages running like shit that /DOUBLE THE SPEED OF GITHUB/ has everyone excited for a whole 14 frames a second.
Computers were a mistake.
