Things Get Interesting
June 1, 2021
Coyote always catches that car
never catches that car
and it ��s the in between spaces on the bank of things
where Coyote sits and washes themselves
that things get interesting
little fish, bait fish, big fish delicious
or, other nights, delicious Coyote
in one end and out the other
wouldn ��t have it any other way
tonight,
spelling their name on the side of a New York Yellow Cab
there ��s a pause
cabbie gets out
eyes everywhere and nowhere at once
eyes Coyote
Coyote eyes ��em back
still finishing
a proper flourish as their teeth grow back in
catching cars, well
sometimes it ��s personal
cabbie notices the chain
yards of chain trailing off to nowhere
figures the better part of valor ��s probably over ��
thataway
runs to get it
coyote whistles, pokes their teeth
tosses one out, tries again
hums instead, starts wrapping chain
hard points
gotta catch ��em all
cab
dragged into the space between the street lights
shadow and shimmer
gone
come morning, container ship gets one blip
that little green pip probably just as surprised as the crew
cab comes through the edge of dawn, trailing chain
hooks in just below the radar mast
sticks fast
chain playing out, a bit of slack, big fish �� and relax
big fish and �� chain goes taut
cab and chain both straining with all they ��ve got
hap between dusk and dawn widens a touch
bronze bull hurked in
old cowpoke gripping one horn and laughing like a loon
bull, arse backwards
both horns into that one container not under contract, hooked ��
and back, cab, bull, cowpoke, container, right through the gap
