A representative of Kildare County Council (KCC) has explained why the
council is reluctant to install piping in a drain.
KCC’s representative made the comments in response to a motion at the
latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which was held on
Wednesday, April 19 last.
Fine Gael councillor Mark Stafford urged KCC to 'proceed with the
piping of the drain at Ellistown at the Ellistown/Green Road as
previously agreed.'
Cllr Stafford also said that the owner of the site was willing to
install the piping.
However, KCC told him that there are no plans to pipe the drain in
question.
A representative told Cllr Stafford: "It is an open drain that carries
a substantial amount of water.
"To pipe it will cause maintenance and possible flooding issues."
When the possibility of fencing off the area was brought up, the
representative said: "I don’t want to go down this route, because once
you start, where do you stop, and where will we get the funding?"
This prompted Cllr Stafford to once more urge KCC to 'keep an open
mind' on the issue.
