I wrote a simple test program in BASIC using ED.COM:
10 PRINT "HELLO, WORLD"
then tried compiling this with SBASIC.COM; it tried to write to disk B but just kept spinning. Not sure if drive B is bad, disk B is bad, but this feels too slow for even an 80's 2.5MHz Z80.
I haven't cracked the case yet, so no decapping as of yet. First thing I'm going to have to do is build out the SD card adapter. Anyways, there's that. I have a giant "portable" sitting on my desk now.
