Hey! I've been currently busy with doing something that's really important to me recently, namely Altesq.
Altesq is a pubnix (public access unix server) running on Linux. We share the resources, while creating, chatting on IRC, perhaps speaking on Mumble, having our own shell forum via Iris, and more. The point is to bring back the intimacy of the old WWW. Altesq is not for one group or type of people, we want everyone in so we can build a tight knit community. For anyone that's damned tired of the current state of the internet and want a breath of fresh air, this is for you. I say we should use technology to our best benefits of actually socializing and enjoying ourselves.
You might ask yourself, how's it different from other tildes/pubnixes? Well, I plan to set a member cap in the future, probably 16 or 32, in order to preserve the sense of community. Altesq has a strong sense of community, not just providing services to our fellow members. If something has too many participants, the intimacy of interacting with others is gone. The hardware is mine, a Raspberry Pi 4, hosted in my home, we do have DDoS protection. Aside from that, Altesq is run by the members. Everyone has a say in what direction the community should go. We do polls voting on the community-set values, things we should add and other things, whilst applying the principle of centralized democracy.
I think this will be great! I've tried to launch Altesq publicly before, as it has been so far just a way to host services for myself and a friend, but never actually went and done it. I've always wanted to have a little community on the Internet, a little space where everyone can enjoy themselves. Where we can debate, talk about philosophy & all kinds of things, use Linux and so much else. Actual worthwhile connections on the Internet. Obviously, nothing is set in stone. This is the first (actually not, but that's a long story) version of Altesq, with many more improvements to come as people suggest them. I want Altesq to have a strong presence on the Small Web, that's why it provides Gemini hosting, because I believe this is the future of the Internet, at least the non-commercial and ethical one.
Altesq has many services for our members, including Gemini capsule hosting, WWW website hosting, SSH access, an IRC server and many others. If you're interested in finding out more, check out the Altesq linked below, and the wiki. For questions and to register, send an email at admin AT altesq.net.
Oh, and a new change related to my capsule. You can now contact me at evenfire AT altesq.net, it's shown on my index page, too.
