The Raspberry Pi 3 A+ has been loaded with the [#SimH] (https://mastohack.com/tags/SimH) software and various bootable OS images that can run on the PDP-11/70. Connected it to the GPIO interface on the back of the PCB where it will live. Powered it up for a "smoke test" and let it boot into the default "idled" program that runs some patterns on the LEDs.

Then inserted the panel switches and got them soldered in.

I only learned about the pixel art Piece "Four Byte Burger" when [@blakespot] (https://oldbytes.space/@blakespot) posted about it last month. It is a gorgeous piece of pixel art, and its history as a piece that couldn't be saved because the software was so new it didn't even have a save function only adds to its allure.

Recently Ahoy posted a recreation video of the image on YouTube. Here's a picture I took of Four Byte Burger on my JVC TM-H1750 CRT monitor.

XboxAhoy's recreation of Jack Haeger's lovely "Four-Byte Burger," referenced in my earlier toot, displayed in phosphor glory on my Amiga 1000 and its 1080 CRT. (XboxAhoy linked the IFF in the post to his sub - r/XboxAhoy - on reddit).

My recent toot about the iconic lost Amiga work of pixelart from 1985, Jack Haeger's "Four-Byte Burger," received by far more reactions than any of my others.

YouTuber "Ahoy" has just posted a video in which he sleuths rather deeply and manages to recreate this wonderful piece, pixel by pixel, with apparently great accuracy.

I've just found the author of one of my favorite retrocomputing newsletters, Computer Ads from the Past, is on Mastodon: [@johnblood] (https://fosstodon.org/@johnblood)

The newsletter covers old computer ads, each accompanied by a short history of the advertised product or company:

Not every brilliant plan in my head turns out to be just that.

I.e. using zif sockets for all large chips in my [#SixtyClone] (https://oldbytes.space/tags/SixtyClone) board isn't possible. Also the towers of power of the VIC-II Kawari and the MOS CPU replacer don't seem to be a good idea.🤷‍♂️

Replacing the TED socket on my [#Commodore] (https://oldbytes.space/tags/Commodore) [#C16] (https://oldbytes.space/tags/C16) .

They used quite low quality sockets in production.

From experience I can say that modern turned high quality sockets aren't ideal either, so I went with a dual leaf one.

Using an inexpensive desoldering station makes me wonder why I ever put up with a solder sucker.
