I've been feeling a bit weird lately, probably because I've been trying to get ready for a big move. My wife and I have been living with family during the past school year since everything has been online anyway, and now it's time to move back to school. There's just something about the idea of packing everything you own into a box and taking a road trip to the next state over.
We finally managed to buy our first car that we can call our own. I think we got pretty lucky with the find, but I guess the true test will be the road trip we'll be taking. I've already spent a few hours behind the wheel though and it feels great to drive. And it's big enough for us to not outgrow it anytime soon.
Craigslist, an online local marketplace, was a huge help in the search. It feels like a relic of the web of the past in the best way possible. The page layout is simple and pretty unremarkable. It feels like a tool instead of something that's trying to keep you using it for as long as possible. You can also get email alerts for new listings that fit your search criteria without signing up for an account -- and those are the only emails you'll get.
This week I finished the recently released Portal 2 mod, Portal: Reloaded. The mod adds a third portal that you can shoot to time travel between present and future versions of each test chamber, along with a lengthy 25 level campaign built around that new mechanic.
If you're a Portal veteran I can't recommend it enough. It genuinely felt like learning Portal for the first time.
I'm sticking by what I said earlier about wanting to get some projects started once I'm a little less busy. I can't help but wonder if I've been procrastinating though? I mean clearly I had enough time to play Portal...
I keep telling myself after we get settled into the new place that I'll start something in earnest. But what if something comes up after that? I'm worried that I'll keep pushing stuff like this back and back, justifying it because it's not the perfect time.
I still feel good about my ideas though and I'm probably worrying for nothing. Just in case, I hope writing about it will help keep me accountable.
