Hey folks, I haven't written anything for a minute.
I've been working on a few Gemini-related projects.
I converted my personal page into a front-end for a Gemini-to-HTTP proxy server. The public-facing server itself is actually a commercially-hosted Apache setup. I had to muck around a bit with PHP in order to set up some way of getting it to render pages served by my personal VPS. I want to write a gemlog post detailing the entire setup soon.
I am happy about this because it means that my capsule and personal web page are rendering the same content.
I have also been working on an Android client app. I took some inspiration from the now-defunct Ariane visually. I'm building it in Microsoft's new MAUI framework. I'm really excited to get to show it off once I've ironed out a few more bugs.
Today we put a deposit down on an apartment. We've been quite anxious about it. This was our first choice, but we were waitlisted for this place for a few months and had to take a chance on repeatedly turning down our second-choice place in the meantime. I feel such a sense of relief now. I can't wait to get out of California.
I recently went target shooting on some public land with a local rifle club that I'm a member of. I got to shoot a couple of AK-style rifles for the first time. "Those'll really clear your sinuses" as my father put it. That was a fun day.
My employer has recently hard-shifted everyone into an agile workflow. I dislike the daily meetings and multi-hour-long sprint planning sessions, but I think that most of my irritation with it will subside as I get into the routine. I appreciate being able to lay out my expectations for myself ahead of time, so from a time-management standpoint I think this is a win. Whereas my previous employer only had a very half-assed scrum implementation, the guy coordinating the rollout at my current place really seems to know what he's doing. I think it helps that this is a much larger company (by an order of magnitude) with more stakeholders who want to do things correctly.
My partner went on a trip recently and brought me back a very nice beard balm. The company that makes it is called Ewe So Dirty (their logo is a sheep). It's got a pleasant cocoa butter scent that I find quite calming.
I'm going to try and grow my beard out again. So far the balm has helped alleviate much of the itchiness that typically leads to me giving in and shaving it early on.
My partner and I have been enjoying ordering scents from various independent perfume-makers online. I had originally turned them onto scents by introducing them to Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab's samples. Since then BPAL has become a household staple, and just recently my partner has been trying out some new shops. Most notable has been Fyrrinae, particularly their fir and cedar scents. Winter Sound is my favorite of theirs that we've sampled so far.

Take care, friends.
