Furrinalia: VIII Kalends August

Furrina was the goddess of springs and wells. Her rite was very ancient and she had her own special priest. Roman authors knew little about her. Varro says that her name is barely known (Varro _De Lingua Latina_ 6.19 LCL). Apparently, she had been overshadowed by Neptune, and was largely forgotten by the time of Varro (116-27 BCE).

Furrina was worshiped in a grove on the Janiculum Hill (one of the seven hills of Rome). Her sanctuary, a cleft with a spring in it, is still there today.
