do any of you know of free resources for learning more about math/computer science concepts? I've tried youtube but I can't seem to focus on what they're saying so I'm looking for any good text based materials

In general, I find (for almost any topic), the older the book the more useful it tends to be. Even in supposedly fast-moving areas like CS, things really aren't moving all that fast (and the faster they move, the less likely they are to be relevant in the future) · 2 years ago
IMO there are 2 fundamental books: The Pragmatic Programmer, by Andrew Hunt, and The Art of Computer Programmer, by Donald Knut. Next, I would recomend Concrete Mathematics also by Knuth. To learn the basicson how to program perhaps The Self-Taught Programmer, by Cory Althoff. · 2 years ago

Can't help you with speech synthesis. As for encryption, it depends. Lots of material out there about *using* existing encryption standards. Developing it is another matter, it's a really hard topic and you need a good grounding in advanced mathematics before approaching it.
