As was mentioned here. The only way to hold "crypto" is on your own wallet with your own keypairs. That's how I do it and how it should be done. I also want to be clear: Everything outside of BTC and Monero is pretty much worthless to me. ETH I think will stick around but it is the mother of all shitcoins, but, it does have some utility and has produced tokens based on its blockchain with utility such as BAT and LBRY, but, other than that 99% of "crypto" is trash. Also, Monero is based and Redpilled to an extreme degree. · 11 months ago
else's wallet, there is very little left other than owning it or buying something with it. Everything else is just complete bullshit - not because of crypto, but because people think that somehow they need to make more money with it. · 11 months ago
I don't understand why there is so much activity in the crypto area. Once you see that you simply cannot put your coin into a 'trading platform' or someone else · 11 months ago
My question was largely addressed by @stacksmith: I was wondering how different having a crypto wallet through one of these companies really is from just buying stock through a traditional investment company. I understand one technically owns the crypto, but if the company managing the wallet stops existing, one is left with nothing, right? As far as I understand the blockchain, though an interesting technology, doesn't seem to meaningfully come into play aside from generating people interest.
I'm sure I have some misunderstandings, and I welcome the chance to correct them ☺ · 11 months ago
@arman I also have some experience · 11 months ago
Most problems with crypto has to do with people's misconceptions and being used to things like banks. With crypto, posession (of private keys) is all there is. If you keep your crypto in an exchange or some third-party, you _no longer have it_. They do. It is sad but annoying to see people scamming themselves by sending coin to someone they don't know, then bitching about losing it. · 11 months ago
@adou2 True of any exchange and any crypto. If it's not in your possession, all you have is a promise from an exchange. · 11 months ago
@haze Monero, the magic internet money of magic internet moneys. Bitcoins have a anonymity issue, but Monero solution is worse than the problem, you can't even be sure that the exchange where you bought your money had it in the first place…
Cryptos sucks. · 11 months ago
Me too. Espically I'll buy some Monero for sweet anonymous payment. · 11 months ago
@arman I do. What are you curious about? · 11 months ago
Good luck!
By the way, does any one else on the Station have experience with crypto? It isn't something I'd ever invest in, but I'm still curious about it. · 11 months ago
