I think a lot of people are in denial about the extent to which consumption is going to have to be scaled back in order to tackle the problem, and liberal politicians absolutely can't acknowledge it. The only tool they can consider is markets nudged this way or that - hence taxes on fuel which are useless without comprehensive public transport that people can use instead of private cars, and the expectation that everybody should buy a new electric car within the next few years instead of any approach that might involve scaling back the automotive industry. · 2 years ago

While I agree with some of the assessment, especially around veganism, some private transport and the idea that a profit based economy is going to regulate itself to produce less, the matter of solving this is mostly philosophical. To plan an economy (planned economy suggests that) you actually need people capable of doing that. And you can't. it's too complex. You need a distributed approach somehow · 2 years ago
