I have a recurring nightmare.
It involves me being in a labyrinth, mazing through it, until I find a tiny, tiny marble.
It really is tiny, and I know that.
I pick it up, and in this moment I notice something much bigger and majestic than myself.
It is a giant orchestra, or sometimes a big organic machine. It plays music, resumes its exalted tones.
I notice the discrepancy between the size of the marble, my size, and the size of the giant beating heart that is the orchestra, as it continues to play, not even aware of — or bothered by — my existence.
In this moment, I feel what I can only accurately describe as my soul departing from my body, made tangible by a feeling of emotional coldness slowly spreading throughout my body, and most importantly, the tiny marble.
Then I wake up.
