     Cables that will do this are advertised in a few places. So far,
they seem to be pretty expensive-- like $20 or so. (Do you know of any
place selling them for a sane price?)

     You can get some decent size 2.5" IDE drive modules-- like 500MB or
so-- for around $50 that can be swapped in and mounted to a Focus card.
This looks like a better route than attaching 3.5" drives with a
separate cable.

     Yes; SHH Systeme sells 2-3 models of IDE controller. They are
described on their website at  http://users.ids.net/~kerwood/shh.html .
