rebirth

I bought a "new" laptop the day before I got fired from my last job. I'm bad with money, I guess? Thinkpad T440p, bought off some dude on reddit who said he put it together from parts he ordered from aliexpress and wherever else. I like DIY shit as much as the next guy so why not. The lid doesn't close right, something to do with the bezel beneath the screen bulging out and keeping the hall effect sensor from triggering right whatever.

Anyway. The last computer I had to name was a Lenovo ThinkCentre I bought years ago, after things ended with my kid's mom, and named it 'genesis' 'cause it was all black and angular and like symbolism I guess? So this laptop, which I got right after I lost my stable, adult, union job (for some bullshit I won't get into here) I decided to name 'rebirth', why not. It's sat on the table next to my recliner and been handy for quick lookups while I've watched so much youtube and whatever else for the last month and change I've been unemployed.

A month. I've done nothing with it. Did I work on the arcade cabinet? No. Did I do any long-needed, longterm cleaning to the house? No. (I did pick up the basement some, but that's because the furnace died and the landlord had to send in the goon squad to replace it and I took it from 100% embarrassing to, like, 80%. woo.) I did eat a lot of garbage, though. Hooray for junk food.

I went to *redacted* today for a physical and drug screen, with an offer of employment contingent on my passing those. Passed the physical, waiting on drug screen. (someone explain to me why I have to pass a panel that tests for cannabis in a jurisdiction where it's legal? nonsensical.) They said I have high blood pressure and are worried about it, so I got salty fast food on the way home. I am slouching towards oblivion, to smash and grab a phrase. I joked with the nurse at the clinic about bungee-jumping. Maybe next year.

Anyway. New to this geminispace thing, long time lurker first time poster. Hoping to stick around for a while, maybe I can shame myself into writing here more often than I did on my 200LX... or the Mystic... or the AlphaSmart... or any of the other old computery things I've tried to convince myself to journal with. Maybe it being public-ish, but completely unavailable to anyone I know in real life, will help? Who knows!
