This day was called *Quando stercum delatum fas* ("when dung may be removed lawfully"), because the filth was swept from the temple of Vesta on this day. The temple was closed to the public and business would resume after the sweeping. The filth was taken down an alley besid e the Capitoline Hill and carried to the Tiber river, where it was thrown in. This marked the official purification of the temple of Vesta and the public hearth.
This day may also have marked the end of the Vestalia.
