Over the past week I have been brainstorming Ideas to write about:
Theres only so much free time in my day. Some of these are such juicy tangential bait that Ill undoubtedly crank out 20 paragraph essays over. Some of them are more reasonable to write about.
Its kind of odd to have this be its own published article but I figure some will appreciate a snippet of insight into my creative process. Some have written about not having much to write about as a reason for their very long absences of blog leave.
I am very fortunate to have a monumental amount of curiosity about the natural world and the *why's* of things, a casual interest in entertaining/thought provoking stories, and a desire to communicate the most challenging of abstract concepts the universe has to offer, to normal people in easy-to-understand vocabulary. My desires to learn, understand, and communicate, blend perfectly into a wellspring of writing inspiration (even if few of my potential readers are as interested in the topics as myself).
Also notice that I try not fall into the trap of trying to stay on topic or have a global theme/motif across my stuff. There are definitely topical themes of math, science philosophy, theology, education, and abstraction across my writings. However there is no real consitency article to article, one day you can have a cooking recipe, the next a tangent on the nature of turbulence. Maybe anthological diversity is its own kind of theme.
When authors single mindedly try to stick to a single theme, or a certain writing style, eventually they face the potential issues of runingn out of things to write about or being burnt out on the topic at hand.
Geminispace is littered with the carcasses of dead capsules with ~1-3 months worth of tangents on how terrible the web is or how programming in X language is so much better or how $economic_system is a failure or whatever.
Some people are looking for echo chambers, not outlets. Geminispace is so diverse that it resist this echo chamber and instigates actual conversation through reply logs and emails. (although the ability for people to actually communicate in effective, respectful, equal ways is not always the case even here)
Its easy to confuse interest as a substitute for identity. Its easy to find a group of people online who come together to obsess over anything under the sun. Politics, hobbies, entertainment media, gender, age, anything and everything can bring people together.
On one hand its nice to feel like part of a community cult-style, on another hand, mentally being a one trick pony or a one-interest person gets boring and superficial real fast. There are lots of one-trick ponies and one-interest people in the world who make one topic their whole identity. Something about blogs might act as a tangable mirror which makes them realize how barren and single-focused their thought-space is.
That being said I also feel that there is a place for the obsessed. Sometimes a life devotion to one idea is what it takes to make a lasting breakthrough in understanding. People who devote their lives to something for no other reason than the love of it. These kinds of people tend to actually have something interesting to say, something new to bring to the table, and a dedication to stick to their fucking blogs for more than a few months.
Another issue is language barriers. One of my gifts is an extensive comprehension of the english language. This is not a luxury shared by everyone. Much of geminispace is locked by unable to read less-common languages and an ability/willingness to write in english.
It was pointed out to me by a person whom doesn't speak english natively, that formulating writings in english takes much more time. I can definitely feel that.
I also have blocked some feeds on antenna because I just can't read them. These issues aren't going away any time soon, nor are they the fault of any one person but an issue with the nature of different cultures and languages.
Alright, Thats it for this one. Its time to get my bearded dragon off the lawn (shes been having lots of fun while daddy was writing this!!). Thanks for reading, hope to see you later! Buh-bye 0/
