Terrible stomach ache today. And corresponding troubles. I won't bore you with the details. Tried working anyway but gave up around noon and tried sleeping for a while, or well, lying in the fetal position and moaning, mostly. The passing cars and lorries full of shouting students didn't help.
Yes, it's that time of the year again, when the finishing year of the upper secondary schools tour the city, typically dressed in white dresses (girls) or dark suits (boys) and a special white student cap (both). Some of them go by cars, honking all the time, and some on the truck bed on large trucks, then typically with a loudspeakers and very loud music. Everyone has a whistle as well, adding more noise.
The schools take turns because there are so many of them in the city and if all of the students would do this at once it would be even more chaos. So... every year we live with a few weeks of this chaos.
I'm mostly afraid for the students hurting themselves, though. Sitting in the car window when other cars zip them by... Not good.
Speaking of students... Tomorrow we're off (if I can, stomach, et c) to a party for the daughter of some friends who is finishing upper secondary.
Me and #3 was at L's 50th birthday party yesterday. It was more of a children's party, really, with no alcohol, a bouncy castle and some children's games! No, the adults present didn't really jump around in the castle nor played the games. Poor L spent much of the time chasing his youngest and seemed a bit stressed.
I'm afraid #3 was thoroughly bored after a while and wanted to go home. I gave in and called a cab, then we went back home by train, buying some snacks on the way and speaking about watching a movie. We went with Léon/The Professial (1994) and it was an instant hit. #3 liked it a lot like I knew they would.
L gave me a strange, but alluring book called "Elektrologi". It should have had a better editor but it's really interesting. It reminds me a bit about Jaques Vallee's 1982 book "The network revolution: confessions of a computer scientist", but mostly anecdotes about VLSI design instead.
