Morning from the beautiful island of Gotland!
Finally a vacation! And of course I got sick for a few days. It isn't even con crud! Maybe stag or wedding crud.
I thought about going to MCH 2022, of course. I already had both transport and somewhere to sleep and then dayjob even said that they had free tickets! But instead, a dear friend was going to have his stag party and I decided to be there instead.
The stag party had a sort of political theme. There was, among other things, a protest march with a large banner, signal flares, and slogans, then a people's court and, following the people's judgement, some activities: HEMA longsword fencing with me, recording Europe's "The Final Countdown" with the entire stag party as choir, and painting a huge graffiti painting with a message to the bride to be.
We finally met up with the hen party at a karaoke bar for dinner and by then everyone involved were quite inebriated. The party didn't end there, of course, and everyone continued to drink well into the night. I came home slightly after midnight. No, I didn't attempt karaoke and I didn't kiss the bride. I did, however, kiss the bridegroom's sister goodnight.
The day after I went back to the cottage but was back in Malmö again the next weekend for the actual wedding party. It was a lovely affair on a huge boat in the inner harbor with a band playing Irish folk music/celtic punk. P and I had a good time but we retired early, at about midnight, after some nice Ardbeg and interesting conversation on deck.
Now we're on Gotland with plans to visit P's parents and generally do holiday stuff, I guess, including visiting a chili farm and the Lummelunda cave, #3's favourite.
Mom had Internet troubles. I tried helping remotely. Asked her to send photos of the LEDs on the routers and the fiber converter. My verdict: No Ethernet link between router and fiber converter. She also tried (after shopping necessary stuff, a USB-Ethernet dongle and some TP cable) hooking her Chromebook directly into the converter. Same thing. No link. I asked her to say these things to the ISP support but that, apparently, didn't work. They needed both a MAC and an IP address! Ha! The poor people at Bredband 2's helpdesk were apparently slave under some template. She finally got through to them on her third(?) call and someone from Fiberstaden, the people in charge of layer 1 & 2 came out, looked for a few seconds at the fiber converter, replaced the power brick, and voila!, everything worked again.
Now mom's looking for another ISP with a friendlier helpdesk... I had a look at Fiberstaden themselves and they actually listed IPv6! But, strangely, only on the 10 Mbit/s service? I sent an e-mail and asked about that. The support replied quickly and said that they forwarded the question to their technical staff and then I got a reply from their CTO! He said that of course IPv6 is available on all their services, not just 10 Mbit/s, and that they will update the text. This is promising! I think I will recommend Fiberstaden to mom.
