The Festival of Isis
Isis (Wikipedia via Transjovian.org)
The worship of Isis was a mystery religion, so very little is known of the events of the Isia. We do know that there was a parade that marched to the shrne of Issis. At the front of the parade were people who dressed as their "votive fancy desired", followed by a chorus of women wearing only white. As the parade passed, they littered the path with flower blossoms and perfumed oils. Others followed carrying torches and candles to honor *She Who Made the Stars of Heaven*.
Following the torch and candle-bearers were musicians and a choir of young people dressed in white. Then came the priests and priestesses shouting "Make way for the goddess". Bringing up the rear were more people who had been initiated into the mysteries of Isis (wearing white linen, of course). Women wore veils, and men shaved their heads for the occasion. These final members also carrien a silver or bronze sistrum (a sacred percussion instrument).
