Apollo was strictly a Greek god. The Romans adopted the cult, and the Games of Apollo were established for July during the late third century B.C.E. during the wars with Hannibal.
Because of the popularity of the games, by 44 B.C.E. seven days had been set aside to honor Apollo. The games in the Circus, chiefly horse races 🐎, lasted two days, while plays and stage productions carried on for five days.
It was customary to put garlands all over the home and for the woman of the house to lead all prayers. A big feast was held during this time. Tables and couches were set up in the entranceways of the houses and the frond doors were left open during the banquets.
