We never hope it happens, but we know that it will. We woke up and my daughter was sick.
I had to call out, which likely had some cascading effects as the job I was on was put out of ratio (journeymen to apprentices), but that doesn't really concern me. I'm still a new parent, with a baby with at least an extra stuffy nose and who definately wasn't herself.
I've always been reluctant to call out of work, even when I know that I may be sick, which is almost never. One of the problems with many of the trades (typically non-union (I don't want to start that argument here, yet)) is that, if you don't work, you don't get paid. Fortunatley, the company that I work with recently made changes that included a rework of our vacation time and added sick time. This was also so they could fall in-step with the requirements that some of our contracts required (something something with the government red tape, way above my pay grade, but I get paid!)
I brought her to the pediatrician, the little buggie is now 16lbs! A little examination later and it was determined that she had a cold. To me a cold is no big deal, but for her, it means no daycare. We were assured that we didn't need to worry as long as her symptoms got better, which they did throughout the day.
I'm glad that she never lost her little personality, and am looking forward to having to pick her up from daycare tomorrow.
I also took some of the time to start making a list of more topics to add to the capsule. I will work on them from time to time. The more I add to the capsule, the more I might have to reorganize a little bit again, just adjusting my flight path.
Anyway, I hope she develops an immune system like mine, and no allergies.
