Connor Lynch, 19 Apr
A Co Down man has pled guilty in court to multiple charges of sexual abuse against two girls over a number years.
Paul O'Brien, 32, from Ballynahinch, pled guilty to 24 of 33 charges he faced at Belfast Laganside Court on Monday, April 17, after carrying out a campaign of sexual abuse against two girls over a ten year period.
He admitted to 13 charges against one of the girls, which include gross indecency with or towards a child, seven counts of indecent assault on a female and five counts of rape.
O'Brien also admitted to 11 charges against the other girl, which include one count of rape, eight counts of indecent assault on a female and inciting gross indecency with a child.
He is now due to be sentenced on June 6 at Laganside Crown Court.
One of O'Brien's victims said that he had destroyed her childhood and adulthood and that he had robbed her of so much, except her strength to stand up and fight.
She said: "You destroyed my childhood & adulthood. You made me mentally sick over the years and made me be an adult as a child. Your actions have caused me so much hurt, loss and rage of anger.
"I don’t trust anyone because of you and I certainly don’t feel loved by anyone cause I’ll never understand love because of you. I hate the body I am in, I hate my mind now cause I have to think differently about every situation! You robbed me of so so much the list goes on.
"You won't rob me of my strength to stand up and fight against people like you anymore.
"It’s finally over for us not mentally or emotionally but physically it’s over."
