MSDOS.COPY is an 8 bit program that can copy files from the root directory of a 3.5" MS-DOS diskette to a ProDOS disk. The MS-DOS disk must be inserted in an Apple SuperDrive that is attached to the new Apple II 3.5 Disk Controller Card. Drives other than the Apple SuperDrive may work, only the SuperDrive has been tested. A SuperDrive attached to the Apple IIgs Smartport will NOT work. This program is very simple. When run it will look for a SuperDrive and ask for the MS-DOS diskette to be inserted. Pressing any key will cause the diskette to be read. The root directory will be displayed on the screen. The arrow keys can be used to scroll up and down through the files. Placing the cursor (the ">" character) beside a file and pressing "Return" will cause the program to prompt for a ProDOS filename where the data is to be copied. The data will then be copied to a TXT file with the name specified. No conversion of any type (like CR,LF to CR) is done. No disk swapping is supported. Files must be in the root directory of the MS-DOS disk, files in subdirectories cannot be copied. Files cannot be copied from ProDOS to the MS-DOS disk. MS-DOS files with no data in them will not be copied. Deleted MS-DOS files cannot be copied. Both 1.44M and 720K diskettes are supported. The disk format must match the diskette type. A disk formatted 1.44M must be on a HD type diskette (with an extra hole opposite the write-protect hole), and a disk formatted 720K must be on a DD type diskette (with no extra hole opposite the write-protect hole). True IBM PCs can format HD diskettes (with the extra hole) as 720K but they CANNOT be read with this program. The ESC key can be used to cancel any operation except one. When a ProDOS filename is prompted for, pressing "Return" with no filename entered will cancel the copy. The MS-DOS diskette is read using Smartport calls. Standard ProDOS 8 calls are used to write the copied file. This program is FREEWARE. It works for me but I cannot guarantee it will work for everyone.
